How can coaching help me as a sustainability professional?

While many organisations are making sustainability a priority – reducing environmental impact, actively considering their people and wider stakeholders and embracing responsible practices – many rely on just one or two indivuals to drive these efforts.
And this can make it both difficult and at times isolating if you are the one leading the sustainability agenda .
You know that the work has purpose and, done well, can be transformational but it’s seldom easy. You spend every day trying to move this important agenda forward, often without the resources, time or support it really needs. You have to think strategically, influence widely, and persevere especially when progress feels slow.
And when the economic situation is challenging – it is so much harder. Sustainability, alongside marketing, is quite often the first budget to suffer.
These are just some of the spaces where coaching can help.
One-to-one, sustainability-focussed coaching gives you a bit of breathing room.
A space to step back and to think well.
Somewhere you can talk about enhancing what’s working or maybe find a way through a particular challenge. Decipher the complexity of the sustainability landscape, think creatively , work out how to bring someone on board, or just say things out loud that you haven’t had space to say. A space where you have time to think more clearly.
Here are just some of the questions I’ve worked through with my clients over the years:
- /How can I balance what the business needs now with what it really needs to do long term?
- Where should I focus when everything feels like a priority?
- How do I get people to engage with this and actually do something rather than just agree with it in a meeting?
- How can I turn what we’re doing into a clear story people understand without the the risk of greenwashing?
If any of these resonate – or you have one of your own – then get in touch and let’s have a chat.
